The opening concert “Concerto in focus” of the Sebastian Fagerlund Composers Festival of the Uuden Ajan Ensemble will be held at Ritarihuone on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 7 p.m.

Program: Mana, Isola and Clarinet Concerto

The concert begins with the bassoon concerto Mana (2012), whose shamanistic grip cannot fail to strike the listener. The other two works in the concert are the breakthrough works at the beginning of Fagerlund's career as a composer: the orchestral composition Isola (2007) and the Clarinet Concerto (2006). These modern masterpieces provide a good starting point for understanding how Fagerlund started as a composer. The solo bassoonist Asko Padinki, who has also played with the Uuden Ajan Ensemble, often plays as the soloist of the bassoon concerto, and the clarinet soloist is virtuoso Olli Leppäniemi, who works as a solo clarinetist at the Tapiola Sinfonietta.

The concert will be conducted by Tapio von Boehm, Artistic Director of the Uuden Ajan Ensemble.
