Premiered 200 years earlier to the day, on 7 May 1824, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony brings the spring concert season to its culmination. The Symphony and particularly its finale, the ‘Ode to Joy’, is full of meanings and expectations. The grand tune of the finale has been elevated into the official hymn of the European Union, “symbolising Europe as a whole and the ideal of human brotherhood”. This vision is brought to life as instrumentalists and singers recreate the Symphony in a collective effort where the Tapiola Sinfonietta and the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra combine forces in the name of musical brotherhood.
